Harold Taylor Needs Our Support

Harold Taylor was recently convicted of a drug charge in his home town of Panama City, Florida. Harold's case has coincidentally received unusual attention by the Florida court, which fast-tracked his conviction after many months of inactivity. The jury deliberated less than 15 minutes in the one-day Panama City trial. This prosecution is a result of a new judge and prosecutor taking over, not upon any substantial or new evidence. Two prosecutors actually worked to present this case over a $20 attempt-to-purchase. Harold Taylor is scheduled to be sentenced in Panama City December 9th.

What you can do to support Harold

Write letters addressed to the judge, asking for leniency in sentencing and for probation. Address your letters to Judge Richard Albritton, Bay County Superior Court, Panama City, Florida. Please DO NOT send your letters directly to the judge. Mail your letters to Harold's attorney: John Beroset, 1622 N 9th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32503.

If you have letterhead, please use it if you can. Please personalize your letters and mention how you know Harold Taylor. Helpful Talking Points (you need not include all of them, as we want letters to be unique):

Harold is devoted to his family; he is a torture survivor; he has no history of drug involvement; Harold has had no contact with the legal system for a lengthy period of time; he has mentored young people for years, inspiring countless numbers to reject gang and gun violence and instead aspire to become valuable contributors to their communities.

John Beroset needs to receive your letters by November 25th.

A Memorial for Our Fallen Comrade, Bashir Hameed

Saturday, December 13, 2008
1:00 pm to 5:00 pm

House of the Lord Church, 415 Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn, NY

On Saturday, December 13, 2008, the National Jericho Movement will honor and memorialize our brother, Bashir Hameed, who made his transition on August 30, 2008.

Bashir, a Political Prisoner who had been incarcerated for 27 years, died of deliberate medical malpractice while in captivity at Great Meadows Correctional Facility, Comstock, NY.

We mourn the loss of this great Brother, a Black Panther whose fighting spirit never lagged; who, while in captivity, continued to organize, to teach, and to confront the system in a constant battle for protection of the human rights of all prisoners. He remained a warrior in his struggle for justice and freedom, and a leader in his Muslim community. His spirit was never jailed.

We urge all who can to join us in this celebration of our Brother's life and to say a heartfelt thank you for Bashir's sacrifice and service for all of us, the people he loved so dearly.

The memorial will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008, at the House of the Lord Church, 415 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, from 1 pm to 5 pm.
